Good morning readers! I hope you've been out and about enjoying the sun as much as I have? Now that the unpredictable weather is over and sunshine has arrived, I'm finding it a lot easier to read through more books during the week - especially when I can sit out in the garden with a glass of wine to accompany ...

I finished reading this week’s title, Elizabeth Fremantle’s Queen’s Gambit, late last night after promising myself I wouldn’t leave it to the last minute. I’m going away this weekend for some relaxation time so I’m looking forward to kicking back on the journey and getting stuck into next week’s read, Marina Lewycka’s Various Pets Alive and Dead. Obliged to return to court after becoming a ...

Good morning readers! I hope you’ve had a fantastic weekend of reading? I’ve been dipping in and out of a couple of books in my non-Readarama list – mainly non-fiction – before I began this week’s read, Elizabeth Fremantle’s Queen’s Gambit. Queen’s Gambit seems like it could be a fascinating read. The book is an account of Katherine Parr,... More ...

I hope we’re all well and enjoying the transition into Spring? I don’t know where you are, but the weather seemed to get a little confused in my neck of the woods and turned from glorious sunshine to snow showers within an hour. It was just the excuse I was looking for to lie back and relax with this week’s read, Out of the Easy. Out of the Easy is set in the New Orleans of the 1950s and focuses on Josie Moraine, a young girl who wants out of The Big Easy and craves more from life than what it can provide. Daughter of a brothel prostitute, she dreams of enrolling in college and ...

I’m going to talk to you about a pet hate of mine: I hate when the synopsis of a book will tell me that I’ll feel a certain way when I finish the book, or I’ll be flabbergasted with a twist the turns up in the middle of the book or, for example with Toby’s Room, when I was promised I'd be left gobsmacked. However, as much as I hate to admit it, I did feel this way. I can’t go into spoilers of what happened in Toby’s Room to make me feel this way, but the surprise turn of events at the end of the book left me wanting more. If you follow my activity on Facebook you’ll have seen ...
