Week Six Update
March 4, 2013
Historical, Literary Fiction
Hello Readararmy!
After refusing to read Animal Farm until the day before the deadline and then being too busy to read Rebuilding Coventry until the weekend was over, I cleared my weekend and sat down yesterday to dive into Pat Barker’s Toby’s Room.
Although it falls under one of my not-so favourite genres – historical fiction – Toby’s Room has managed to capture my attention and it’s becoming an interesting read…no surprise there when it comes from Pat Barker – author of the hugely successful Regeneration series.
When Elinor’s brother, Toby, is reported missing and believed killed, her world is turned upside down. Determined to find out exactly what happens she visits Queen Mary’s Hospital where surgery and art cross to fix the shattered faces of those wounded in the war.
Toby’s Room is promising to be a moving account of the horrific realities of war and I can’t wait to sneak in some time over lunch to rattle off more of the book!
What have you chosen to read this week? Let me know in the comments and if you have a link to a review on your blog, make sure you include it!

Toby’s Room. I don’t want to spoil the book for readers. However there are surprises all through the book – some shocking. I can honestly say that I’ve not read a book like it ever and I read a lot!! I know it is a recommended read for Readarama readers – if you are of a delicate make-up this is not for you. If you can take anything that life throws at you, then this is for you All I can say is that I read it avidly and was exhausted when I finished it. I loved Fault in their stars, Animal Farm and A Year of Doing Good.. Thank you for such a diverse choice. What’s next?
